To explore the significance of the colour red to The Macallan and showcase the rare whiskies that make up the prestigious Red Collection, the creative agency Potlatch collaborated with celebrated Spanish painter and illustrator Javi Aznarez.

Javi’s illustrations tell the story of three individuals who have played pivotal roles in the history of The Macallan, and the brief for Pictoria was to transform Javi’s work into a series of animated films.

Our animation team worked closely with Javi to capture the mood and details of his illustrations and develop a uniquely artistic 2D animation style that conveys the exclusive nature of the collection. Through clever use of push-in and pull-out camera movements, the animation adds depth to the illustrations and enhances the storytelling by pulling the audience into the narrative.

For the score of the main collection film, we chose Scottish classical musician Nicola Benedetti to perform a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Opus 25’.

The result is a captivating animated piece that tells the story of key characters in the history of The Macallan, and the respect for tradition and craftsmanship that has shaped the brand since its origins.
